The Ypod leadership has worked hard to ensure that the world class Lighthouse facility would be an inspiring and "illuminating" physical focus for the young people of Woking, acting as a hub, offering/facilitating coordinated support, education, training, physical activity and recreation.
It is envisioned that activities taking place in and radiating from the Lighthouse would embrace specific outcomes:
- a safe place to be along with an exciting menu of opportunities and services, actively promoting community cohesion;
- programmes and innovative partnerships that support learning and lead to accreditation;
- a dynamic coordination role at the centre of Woking empowering others in the area who are committed to young people;
- proactive involvement of young people in the planning / leadership of activities and services;
- targeted inclusion of vulnerable or disadvantaged groups and individuals;
- a wide spectrum of flexible but strong and effective partnerships that help to ensure the financial sustainability of the project and long-term impact on the life choices of young people in Woking.
This world class facility will feature:
- A central "lighthouse" café/informal meeting area reaching upwards through the two floors allowing in "light".
This innovative and symbolic design would literally form the heart of the development.
- The transforming of the groundfloor entrance / façade of the building would improve the welcoming and access aspects of the building and light up the building. (Planning permitted).
- The extensive development of the second floor into a multi-purpose sports hall for a variety of classes / groups would facilitate a rich programme of activities - generating income, extending services and reaching further into the community.
The Lighthouse would be a safe place, an inspiration for all visitors and help young people to build a future of "light" and hope.
