Official VIP Openings
It is my pleasure to be able to write to you and mention the official openings of Woking YMCA’s YPOD Centre on Thursday June 29th and Wednesday 13th September at 7pm.

The Van Morrison Bands
Some very special guests and heroes! To give you a bit of background information, the project started five years ago with a group of people aged 18 to 25, who decided youngsters in Woking needed a safe place to hang out that would be free of alcohol and drugs. The group began to build up a network of support to help make the dream a reality and two years ago the YMCA became the umbrella organisation to take the project forward.
The aim of the project is to provide a safe and positive environment, offering young people an alternative to gathering in the streets, pubs, restaurants and clubs of the town centre. The facilities will be open to teenagers up to the age of 19 and would be inclusive of any gender, race or faith. The centre will offer a youth café, recording studio, Internet access and a comprehensive information and advice service.

Herbie Armstrong
It will have a drop in area with sofas, a plasma screen TV and an IT area open to the public.
A drama hall and stage will provide equipment and space for performing arts workshops and shows and DJ facilities will be available.
It will be open after school hours and during some weekends. Professional and accredited schemes designed to equip young people with qualifications and skills will be run by qualified adults. Phase two of the building work includes plans for a sports hall marked for five a side football, which will be located on the second floor.
During the evening there will be live music by some of Surrey’s best youth bands, free food, refreshments and entertainment. We will also be joined by local VIP’s, celebrity musicians.

Terry Chimes

Terry Chimes
was a member of the legendary proto-punk band London SS, which also featured Mick Jones and Paul Simonon who, with Chimes, would team up with Joe Strummer and Keith Levene to form The Clash.
Keith Levene left the band early on and Chimes left the band but was brought back to record the bands' self-titled debut album, The Clash. He was replaced by Topper Headon.
In 1982 Topper was fired from the band for his drug problems and Chimes was asked to rejoin for a U.S. tour supporting The Who and the following UK tour.
Other Bands
After leaving The Clash, Terry drummed in bands including Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers briefly in 1977, Generation X from 1979 to 1980, Hanoi Rocks in 1985, The Cherry Bombz in 1986 (with ex Hanoi Rocks members Andy McCoy and Nasty Suicide and ex UK Subs Dave Tregunna) and Black Sabbath on their Eternal Idol Tour in 1987/88.
Today

The Clash
He now practices as a chiropractor, and has been doing so since 1994. He was inducted into in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame when The Clash was enshrined in 2003, and in fact served as the band's spokesperson at the induction ceremony
